PEOPLE often don’t get what they want in life, but they always get what they expect. This is one of the basic laws of life that we need to know before we can achieve anything. It is called the “law of expectation ”. This law says that all individuals have a potential for prosperity and financial success when they expect it, plan for it, and get their hands dirty to achieve it.
This means your attitude towards money, or anything that you want to achieve in life, has to change. The way you think and how you handle your money must change if you are to achieve financial success in the future. Think about this: It is not hard to find two people in our society today, coming from similar backgrounds, attended the same school, achieved the same level of education, and may even be working for the same employer. They have a lot in common, except for one thing: one expects to be poor or, at best, to struggle with money, while the other expects to do well. One seems to have it all. He knows how to manage money, enjoys making good deals, can confidently ask for a salary increase and even start a business successfully. The other’s lack of confidence prevents him from even the easiest of financial steps. He never tries to negotiate a price because it wouldn’t do him any good anyway. He will not ask for an increase because he fears being fired. Our thoughts about money have consequences.
Financially successful people are different from others in one important respect – the way they think about money. Our subconscious mind controls our behaviour , moving us in the direction of our expectations, in this case, relative to the way we think about money. This is what the law of expectation is all out. If you are one of those people who are not expecting to be financially successful, think carefully about the limitations you are placing on yourself because of your attitude.
For starters, it’s time to ask yourself some of these hard questions:
- Where does this attitude come from?
- Do you have any childhood experiences that caused you to think you were poor, so you have learnt to think that way also?
- Do you think you don’t deserve to be successful?
- Do you think you are not smart enough or educated to earn enough money to get ahead?
- So what can you do to earn more money?
The next thing to do is to dump your old money attitude that you are not good with money or are poor. Tell yourself a new story daily – that “I am good with money”. Watch yourself over time how that statement translates into conscious positive expectation of success. Your behaviour, practised long enough makes a habit and your habit, good or bad, will control everything you do.
